MARGARET TURNER PETYARRE
Dreaming’s: Women’s dreaming/Body Paint (Awelye), Bush Medicine, Bush Tucker including Bush Orange
In 1988, Margaret was one of the artists involved in the Summer Batik project which toured locally and internationally and is now a part of the Homes a Court Collection.
Margaret painted various dreaming's including Bush Medicine. The leaves of these valuable plants (there are many species) were used to treat a range of ailments and were prepared in various ways including, boiling the leaves and the liquid consumed. The leaves were made into a poultice and placed onto the body. Leaves were also burned and the smoke was allowed to be inhaled to treat respiratory illnesses and also to ward off bad spirits.
Like many other artists who started with Batik, Margaret went onto to painting with acrylic on canvas.
Margaret’s works can be found in private and public galleries around Australia and internationally.
Traditionally in Aboriginal Culture, when a person is deceased they not use the person’s name and all photos (any digital images) are not to be used. Out of respect we do not have any images of Margaret however we have used her name as it would be very difficult to list the painting with no name attached.
This painting can be hung vertically or horizontally.
This painting was purchased directly from Margaret and a gallery certificate of authenticity will be provided with the sale.
