DOB: c1981.  Bonya (Harts Range Region), Northern Territory
Known as: Marlene Rogers Kngwarrey, Marlene Kngwarreye, Marlene Blue
Dreaming’s: Bush Tucker & Country

Marlene was born in the small aboriginal community of Bonya approximately 400km along the Plenty Highway (South East of Utopia). She later moved to the Utopia Region which covers 5000 square kilometres of land northeast of Alice Springs, consisting of 16 outstations and home to a fluctuating population of 500 residents.

Within this region, renowned for some of the most celebrated artists, Marlene established her home and raised her family.

While not a prolific painter, Marlene’s artistic creations possess a striking beauty, leaving behind a testament to her distinct and remarkable talent. Although her career spanned a brief period, its impact lingers on.

Her artistic narratives delve into tales of her ancestral land and the bush resources gathered by the women employing time-honored iconography.

In this painting, Marlene captures the essence of the bush banana with aqua hues, alongside the rich crimson portrayal of the bush tomato. Depicted in each of the four corners, women gather, seen as a U-shape, with their digging sticks alongside them—a poignant representation of their collective gathering.

This painting was purchased directly from Marlene and a gallery certificate of authenticity will be provided with the sale.
