Jessie is the eldest daughter of the renowned artist Lindsay Bird Mpetyane and Mavis Bird Petyarre . Lindsay, a Senior Elder/Custodian of Major Stories and overseer of their Country (Alhalkere), has instilled in Jessie a deep connection to their cultural heritage.
She has two younger sisters, Rosie and Karen who are also accomplished artists.
From a young age, Jessie and her sisters were encouraged to paint and were given permission to paint various dreaming’s.
In her initial artworks, Jessie captured the essence of her homeland, showcasing the bush foods traditionally harvested by women. She also delved into narratives surrounding Women's Business, which encompassed ceremonies and intricate body paint designs.
Jessie employed a blend of iconography, dot artistry, and other traditional painting techniques, skillfully infused with vibrant contemporary hues, culminating in her distinctive, one-of-a-kind style, in her early artworks. Her more current creations continue to radiate a spectrum of colours that hold a special place in Jessie's heart, interwoven with exquisite designs that beautifully convey her narratives.
