Collection: JENNIFER NGINANA MITCHELL
Jennifer was born in Kala Tjutji which is a significant cultural site of the Emu Dreaming and Wati Kutjara (or also known Wadi Gudjara) Dreaming. Wati Kutjara is the dreaming of two lizard men who descended from the mountains and wandered the Western Desert.
Her mother was Eileen Tjayanka Woods, a well-known artist who sadly passed away. Jennifer started making tjanpi (grass) baskets and sculpting out of wool and grass. In 2008 Jennifer started painting with acrylic on canvas.
Painting is an integral part of Jennifer’s day to day life and whilst she is living at Papulankutja (Blackstone), a remote Aboriginal Community within the Ngaanyatjarra Lands she paints with the Papulankutju Artists. Jennifer often travels to Alice Springs to see her family for extended periods and continues her passion for painting.
She paints her dreaming’s and her country from an aerial perspective, detailing the surface of her ancestral land.
Her works have been exhibited in numerous national collections and her Minyma Kutjara dreaming is in a permanent collection in the Parliament of WA.
