MARIA NAMPITJINPA

Maria is from the Indigenous community of Yuendumu which is approximately 350kms northwest of Alice Springs on the edge of the Tanami Desert with a population of 1000.
 
Maria paints the stories passed down by her ancestors relating to her country.
 
In the beginning, her paintings were traditional style using dot technique coupled with realistic depictions of bush tucker collected.  Over time Maria has developed a modern style.
