Barbara began painting in 1987 for the Centre for Aboriginal Artists. She is the daughter of the celebrated artists Ningura Napurrula and Yala Yala Gibbs Tjungurrayi. The depiction of puli (rock formations) and tuli (sand hills) feature in many of her works which are a part of her ancestral lands, Tjukurla. She also paints women’s’ ceremonies (Minyma Tinagari).

Her work is characterized by thick layering of paint giving an abstract yet traditional feel to her works. Her work is highly sought after and have been exhibited locally and overseas including numerous permanent collections worldwide.
