DOB: C1974. Papunya   Northern Territory
Known as: Christine Cambell Nangala
Dreaming’s: My Country, Women’s Ceremony, Bush Tucker, Tali (Sandhills), Waterholes, Tingari

Christine is the daughter of the late Dinni Campbell Tjampitjinpa, one of the founding members of the Papunya Tula Artists and Bambatu Campbell Napangardi.

In the early years, the men only painted with the women assisting. Bambatu later became a successful artist in her own right and taught her daughter the techniques she learnt painting with acrylic on canvas/linen.

Christine’s family moved to Kintore, on the boarder of Western Australia, in her early years which is her ancestral homelands.

Christine paints the Dreaming’s passed down to her by her mother. Her works often depict her Country, with a focus on waterholes, bush tucker, sandhills (tali) and women’s ceremonies and the sites associated with them.

She also incorporates the designs associated with the Tingari ancestors. According to Pintupi belief, the Tinagri ancestors created the land and brought culture and law to the people. These stories are highly sacred and only known to the initiated.

Christine paints in the traditional style like her mother and other artists from this region using liner dot work and iconography to depict her dreaming’s. Through her art, Christine not only showcases the beauty of her ancestral culture but also keeps alive the stories and traditions that have been passed down through generations.

This painting was purchased directly from Christine and a gallery certificate of authenticity will be provided.
