REF#JM83

DOB: 1965. Utopia   Northern Territory
Known as: Jeannie Mills, Jeannie Mills Pwerle
Language:  Alyawarre
Dreaming’s: Anaty (Bush Yam/Bush Potato)

Jeannie comes from a family of artists. Her mother Dolly Mills is an established Utopian artist and her late uncle Greeny Purvis Petyarre was an acclaimed artist. She is also related to the Internationally celebrated artist, Emily Kame Kngwarreye.

Jeannie has been entrusted with the Anaty Dreaming story, and her distinct portrayal of the Bush Yam has gained recognition among collectors both in Australia and abroad. Her exceptional use of colour is truly remarkable.

The Anaty, a vine-like shrub similar to a sweet potato, grows a complex network of roots that make an important food source.  Using linear strokes to represent the yam and flower and the small dots symbolize the seeds.

Jeannie spends most of her time in her country, and we would only see her when she came into Alice Springs to visit her family.

This painting was purchased directly from Jeannie and a gallery certificate of authenticity will be provided with the sale.
