LINDBERG HAS SIGNED THE PAINTING

REF#LI25

DOB: 1942-1980, Northern Territory
Language: Western Arrernte

Born in 1942 in Central Australia, Lindberg Inkamala was a Western Arrernte artist from the Hermannsburg region, now known as Hermannsburg Mission. One of five children born to Avis and Gerhard Inkamala, Lindberg grew up surrounded by strong artistic and cultural influences. His father, a respected watercolour painter, played a significant role in shaping the creative path Lindberg would later follow.Lindberg worked as a stockman before turning to painting in the early 1960s, continuing through to the late 1970s. His works form part of the Hermannsburg School of Modern Art, a movement renowned for its distinctive watercolour landscapes depicting the Country of Central Australia.

Like his father, Lindberg was not a prolific painter, making his artworks relatively scarce. His paintings are typically created in watercolour on board and reflect a deep connection to land, expressed through subtle tonal variation and quiet, observational detail.

Lindberg passed away in 1980 at the age of 38, leaving behind a small but important body of work that contributes to the legacy of Hermannsburg artists.

In keeping with Aboriginal cultural practices, the name and image of a deceased person are often not used. Out of respect, no images of Lindberg are shown; however, his name is included here for identification purposes.

This particular artwork is unique within the collection, as it does not feature the traditional white boarder commonly seen in many Hermannsburg paintings. The painting cover's the whole board.

The painting was acquired directly from the artist, and a gallery Certificate of Authenticity will accompany the sale.
