Born at Bore Creek, east of Papunya in the Northern Territory, Mary Dixon Nungarrayi is a respected Warlpiri artist whose work is deeply connected to her Country and cultural knowledge. Also known as Mary Nungarie and Mary Dixon Nungarrye, she later moved to Yamunturrngu (Mount Liebig) during the establishment of the settlement.

Mary began painting in the mid-1980s with Papunya Tula Artists, working alongside some of the most significant figures in the Western Desert art movement. Her practice reflects important Women’s Dreaming (Awelye), stories of her Country, the Seven Sisters (Milky Way), and Bush Tucker.

Her paintings are rich with cultural meaning and are often presented from an aerial perspective, illustrating the natural formations of her land—sandhills, rockholes, and sacred sites—through intricate iconography and rhythmic patterning.

Mary was married to fellow artist Colin Dixon Tjapanangka, and her works have been exhibited nationally across state and private galleries.

This artwork is a beautiful representation of her Country, expressed in a refined palette of natural ochres.

It has been ethically sourced directly from the artist and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and a photograph of Mary with the painting.
