REF#MR145

DOB: 1958. Alice Springs, NT
Language: Arrernte

Mervyn is the son of Cynthia Kamara Obitja and the famous painter Wenton Rubuntja (1923-2005). His father was an important role model for Mervyn.  Not only was his father a famous painter but a well-respected Senior law man of the Arrernte people who fought for Aboriginal rights alongside Charles Perkins and Galarrwuy Yunupingu.

Mervyn’s family moved to Hermannsburg when he was in his early teenage years, it was here his father taught him how to paint in the water colour style. He was fortunate to watch other prominent water colour artists in Hermannsburg.

This painting was purchased early in Mervyn’s career.

His works have been featured in in in numerous exhibitions and held in many permanent art collections.

This painting was purchased directly from Mervyn and a gallery certificate of authenticity will be provided with the sale.
