Born: 1945-2019, Ikuntji (Haasts Bluff) Northern Territory
Language: Pintupi
Dreamings: Watiya Tjuta & Uwalki

Mitjili's parents, Tupa Tjakamarra (father) and Tjunkiya Napaljarri (mother) were both artists who taught their daughter to paint. Her brother Turkey Tjupurrula Tolson and her husband Long Tom Tjapanangka were also accomplished artists.

She commenced painting in the early nineties in the same style of the Papunya Tula Artists. Later, creating her iconic bold designs of the Watiya Tjuta trees and the sandhills of her father’s country, Uwalki (near Kintore). The trees provide wood for making spear shafts and other objects for ceremonies.

Her paintings are highly sought after by collectors nationally and internationally. Sadly, Mitjili passed away in 2019, her daughter-in law Deborah McDonald Nangala is now the custodian of the Dreaming story; Uwalki – Watya Tjuta.
Mitjili signed the painting twice and the black ink can be seen coming through the white acrylic. See close up photo.

This artwork can be hung vertically or horizontally.
