NAOMI HAS SIGNED THE PAINTING

REF#ND47

Born: 25 August 1962

We have had many artists from remote communities ‘drop’ into our family farm over the years. Some have been very open talking about themselves and others have not disclosed their story. Naomi was not very open about herself; however, we have discovered Naomi is not only a talented painter and ceramicist but an environmentalist and lobbyist.

Naomi and her husband Paul Dixon were instrumental in preserving the wetlands known as Warriparinga (Windy place by the river) which are opposite the Flinders Medical Centre. The Living Kaurna Cultural Centre is now located in this reserve.

Naomi paints uses traditional dot art and iconography to tell her stories. Although this painting is untitled it is rich in iconography and through these symbols a story unfolds. We can also see there is a campsite in the centre and women and men present. On either side of the campsite there is an image of two breasts with body paint designs which are painted onto the top half of women during ceremonies present.

Naomi has had exhibitions nationally and her works are in a permanent collection at the Flinders University Art Museum.

This painting was purchased directly from Naomi and a gallery certificate of authenticity will be provided with the sale.

Authenticity

Authenticity
Altyerre Aboriginal Art provides its customers with a profile of the artist for every piece of artwork sold. This profile records information that Altyerre Aboriginal Art has gathered on the artist and general information on the stories that the artist paints. Altyerre Aboriginal Art encourages its artists to sign each piece of artwork either with a signature or a cross (some older artists cannot write their name).

Certificate of Authenticity
An artist profile and information on the story being painted is also provided and wherever possible, a photo of the artist holding the painting is included if possible. The certificate is comprised of the following details about the painting:
~ Catalogue No – A unique number assigned to each individual artwork
~ Size
~ Medium
~ Date the artwork was created (this may be an approximate date for our much older pieces)
~ Artist’s name
~ Artist’s Language Group
~ Artist’s Country
~ Title/Story of Artwork
~ Description of the artwork’s story as told by the artist where possible
~ Signature of the Altyerre Aboriginal Art owner
