DOB: c1938- 2013 - Watulka
Language: Pintupi

Dreaming’s: Women’s Ceremony & Wirrulunga Country

Ningura was married to the late Yala Yala Tjungurrayi, a highly respected Pintupi Elder who held significant stories of his country and dreaming stories. They both moved to Papunya in the early days of the settlement.

In 1996 She was part of a group of high-ranking women from Kintore and Kiwirrkura who began painting for Papunya Tula Artists.

Her work is created with heavy layers of acrylic paint which is strong and rich in linear design compositions. Ningura tells the stories of her ancestors of her land and its importance to her people as well as women’s ceremony.

She is one of the eight Indigenous Australian Artists who were chosen to paint the walls, floor and ceiling of Europe’s most important museum – Musee Du Quai Branly in Paris. Her works are immortalized on the ceiling of the museum.

Her painting was also featured on an Australian Stamp in 2002. In January 2007, Ningura Napurrula was included in the list of 50 most collectable artists judged by the Australian Art Collector.

Her paintings can bee seen in numerous galleries around Australia and the world. Sadly, Ningura passed away in 2013.

In Aboriginal Culture, when a person is deceased they not use the person’s name and or photos (any digital images) are not to be used. Out of respect we do not have any images of Ningura online. However, we have used her name as it would be very difficult to list the painting with no name attached.

This painting can be hung vertically or horizontally.

This painting was purchased directly from Ningura and a gallery certificate of authenticity will be provided with the sale.
