Born: (c1956) Ikuntji (Haasts Bluff), Northern Territory
Also known as: Norah Jurrah Nelson
Language: Warlpiri
Skin Name: Napaljarri
Dreaming’s: Bush Tucker, Women’s Hunting, Milky Way

Norah's birthplace was Ikuntji, also known as Haassts Bluff, situated approximately 250 kilometers west of Alice Springs. During her early years, women primarily assisted their husbands in painting. Norah's husband, Jakamarra Frank (Bronson) Nelson, who passed away in 1994, was an established artist who imparted his craft to her. It wasn't long before she ventured into solo painting.

After the passing of her first husband, Norah relocated to Yuendumu, a settlement about a two-hour drive north of her native Ikuntjji. It was here that she embarked on her artistic journey with Warlukurlangu Artists, an art center owned by Aboriginal artists from the Yuendumu and Nyirripi communities in the Western Desert region.

Norah's talent blossomed, leading to her becoming a celebrated artist with her work being showcased on both national and international stages. She would occasionally visit Alice Springs, bringing with her stunning artwork to share and offer for sale at our family home.

This painting was purchased directly from Norah and a gallery certificate of authenticity will be provided with the sale.
