Born: 1981.  Utopia   Northern Territory
Known as: Tanya Bird Mbitjana
Language: Anmatyerre
Dreaming's: Bush Plum (Ahakeye/Anwekety or conkerberry), Women’s Ceremony (Awelye), Alpar (Rat Tail Plant), Bush Medicine Leaves.

Tanya is an established artist from the Utopia region. She is the daughter of the artists Paddy Bird (deceased) and Eileen Bird. Her grandmother was the renowned artist Ada Bird Petyarre.

This painting is one of her early artworks and represents the linear patterns painted onto women’s top half of their bodies and at times thighs and the wild bush berries are seen as the layered ochre dots in the middle of the painting.

The line in the middle is seen as the dancing tracks made by the women and the middle the gathering place.

Her artwork has evolved over time using detailed iconography and fine dot work. She also paints bush medicine leaves which are thick and reminiscent of her famous relative Gloria Petyarre (Ada’s sister).

Her paintings are highly sought after.

This painting was purchased directly from TanYa and a gallery certificate of authenticity will be provided with the sale.
