Violet belongs to the Petyarre Family which has a long tradition of creating some of the most sought after works of Aboriginal Art. She is the sister to Ada Bird, Gloria, Jean, Kathleen, Myrtle and Nancy. The Seven Sisters.

She commenced her creativity with batik then in the 1980s and later painting with acrylic on canvas/linen.

Violet paints the stories passed down to her by her ancestors. Awelye and Arnkerrthe are the most recognised of her dreaming’s. The Body Paint designs are the representation of the designs which are applied to the upper half of the body during ceremony. The Arnkerrthe is the story of the Mountain Devil Lizard which Violet is custodian. The Mountain Lizard (also known as Thorny Devil) is a reptile approximately 20cm in length covered in protective spines. The devil can change colour to blend into its surrounding. The pattern painted onto their bodies are the pattern found on the lizard.

This painting can be hung vertically or horizontally.
