Willie and his family lived in the community of Willowra. He started painting on weapons like boomerangs, and when painting on canvas became available in the late 1980s he took up the art along with other men and women in the. He also created paintings for the children at Willowra school to learn about their Dreamings.  His nephew, Malcom Jakamarra, an acclaimed artist, recalls seeing him paint on canvas in the early 80s which was one of the first instances of canvas painting in the Willowra community.

However, Willies involvement in the art movement goes back even further to 1972 when a painting under his name was sold by Papunya Tula Artists and is now in the Kelton Foundation collection which is a privately owned art collection that is recognised as one of the world’s most significant collections of Australian Aboriginal Art.

Willie is considered to be one of the pioneers who contributed to the spread of painting across the Western Desert, specifically to Willowra.

His beautiful dot art paintings incoroporate iconography and realistic depictions of various bush tucker. Along the top of this painting is bush tomato in various stages of growth and down the bottom is bush banana and various berries in the middle.

This painting was purchased directly from Willie and a gallery certificate of authenticity will be provided with the sale.
